More-Than-a-Weekend Project

I also finished a baby sweater last night, for the lovely Kim in Idaho, who is bravely planning on a second baby – 13 days! – despite one of those birth stories that other people whisper about as being apocryphal and unlikely. Go ahead and ask her about it, it’s not my story to tell.

So I thought this next baby could use a little good karma, not to mention this pattern just puts the word cute to shame. (I know, I know, by posting here I’m ruining the surprise… I think she’ll forgive me. I have a lot on my plate for the next few months, so I don’t dare procrastinate the little things. Like posting. And bathing.)

Details: It’s the Dale of Norway (Dalegarn? is that a different thing?) Ladybugs Pullover, in the yarn as specified for a 6-month size. HAH. Turns out that my gauge in Fair Isle (that’s, um, more than one color at a time, to the non-knitters in the neighborhood) is much looser than my gauge in stockinette, but I didn’t figure this out until the body was almost finished. So, fine, it’s a 2T sweater instead. Still cute.

Not doing cartwheels over the pattern itself; turns out I don’t much enjoy doing Fair Isle with long floats, don’t much enjoy sweater construction that involves steeking (it’s not the cutting itself that bothers me, I just don’t like the boxiness of the final outcome as much), don’t like a million ends to weave in. But I think the result is worth the effort, so even if I never make another one, I’m glad I made this one.

An inside view, for the scientists among us

Take care, Kim, and please have the boringest birth story ever this time around, OK, hon? Pretty please? Thanks.
